The Company

Bespectacled Theatre Company likes seeing things differently. It is the brain child of an optimist and a pessimist with fire in their bellies and big ideas. Based in Liverpool, we’re a group dedicated to challenging perspectives, creating new work and connecting creative people across disciplines. We want to showcase challenging work by new and emerging writers, made by passionate people.

Whilst at university Matt and Franki met and found they liked drinking and talking about setting up theatre companies. One night in August 2016 they drank too much, did it and have been chasing their dreams ever since. With Franki’s dreaming and sheer optimism combined with Matt’s pessimism and skills in the real world they balance out to make 2 competent humans and fantastic creatives.

Bespectacled is the company they felt they had to make. Aiming to see things a little differently and challenge perspectives, they want to create a vehicle to showcase amazing new work and help new performers get their teeth into the Liverpool Theatre Scene. Bespectacled is very interested in hearing from creatives from any discipline who are passionate, excited and dedicated to creating quality theatre.

Our goal is to be an ethical theatre company, treating those we work with well and creating work which highlights social issues we are passionate about and deals with subjects we get excited by. These change regularly but include:

• Sex

• Consent

• LGBTQ

• Fear (in all its forms)

• Happiness (in all its forms)

• The concept of life in inanimate objects and its surrounding implications

• Tea

• Relationships

Fun Fact – Bespectacled did not realise they both wore glasses for a good month or so, even after they’d drawn up logos and everything.
