On The Verge Of Something Good

WE ARE BACK IN BUSINESS.

By 'back' I really mean that we haven't had a break, haven't bloody stopped and the weeks are flashing by so fast I feel like I'll blink and it'll be Christmas. (We have had at least a month of change since this post was written, sorry - M)

But that's showbiz, kid.

So, big news that you should already know: we are lucky enough to have been chosen to take part in Hope St's On The Verge festival. Excuse our language, but we're so excited we could shit.

It's the perfect opportunity for us. We're still a baby company, we have lots to learn, and we just had the experience of a lifetime doing The Sisters Grimm (see our last blog post for all the gory details) but it means that we get to take part in an amazing, diverse festival with other companies we can learn from and grow with AND make use of the guidance from the wonderful people at Hope St itself. We've put major changes and plans in place for the company which will (hopefully) mean we don't quite fuck up as badly as last time and I have Matt reigning me in from day one. No cake all over the kitchen this time. Cake stays firmly in the bowl with a tiny bit of overspill for good measure (Wet wipes at the ready -M).

We're super excited to revamp an old piece for a site-specific immersive horror experience. Basically, we want to scare the pants off people and we're going to find the very best place in which to do that.

It's still stressful, its still non stop, and it's still a bloody nightmare (no scary pun intended) but like, the best kind. I swear it was last Friday yesterday. Where did my week go?

Nonetheless, the cogs are turning, as they must. We have been looking at loads of spooky venues with loads of history and Liverpool city centre is full of 'em. We veiwed a fantastic hidden gem for our venue - The Bridewell Gallery. It's so good we almost don't want to tell you about it. So shhhh. I can't share any photographs with you just yet but imagine the creepiest, most derelict old police station you can, add some dark and cobwebby nooks and crannies and a wonderful lady called Fiona who was kind enough to tell us all the spooky tales about the place...and, yeah, you've got yourself a terrifying venue.

I've asked if I can write and direct this one - fuck it, I might even act in it yet (A bit greedy - M). Whatever I do I want to regain some ownership over this company - the people we met along the way have been amazing, fantastic, hardworking people and I wouldn't have had it any other way, but we need to figure out who Bespectacled is and who we want us to be. We need to grow into and eventually out of the puberty stage of Bespectacled so bear with us whilst we get a bit moody.

And by moody we mean a little kooky, a little spooky, a little history and just a sprinkle of morbid.

Watch this space!
